If you want to access more help and support relating to any of the issues that have been touched on in this website please see the below services. If you know of any other services that you think should be listed on here please get in contact and let us know.

If you are a student at Manchester University please feel free to contact the LGBT Secretaries at:, or… with any worries, queries or problems that you might have. If you are not a student please still feel free to contact us and, if we cannot help you satisfactorily, we will signpost you to the people who can.


The university LGBTQ society is open to all students at the University of Manchester and at Manchester Metropolitan University. It is active during term time and organises both social and political events at which LGBTQ students and our friends can get together and make the most out of our university experience. In order to provide a more political dimension to the LGBTQ experience at university, the

LGBT Secretaries will be re-starting LGBTQ Welfare and Campaigns Collective

this year (2011).  Please contact us if you would like to know more.


Beyond UMSU:

The Lesbian Community Project-

The Lesbian Community Project is the only full time project in the U.K. dedicated to

Lesbian and Bisexual women. They offer advice, information and social

networking opportunities.




Based in the North West, TREC provides a wide range of programming and empowerment

opportunities for the trans community in a safe and accessible space. Their

activities centre on the themes of Body and Health, Policy and Law, Creativity,

Culture and Community, Safety and Networking.




Manchester’s social and support group for trans guys who want to discuss relevant issues in a friendly and supportive

environment. They welcome all female-assigned/raised transgendered, transsexual, gender-questioning, genderqueer and gender variant people over the age of 18.




A social & support group for bisexual people in and around Manchester – and for those

who think they may be bi. They meet regularly in a community

centre in the middle of the city, and have other meet-ups between the main

monthly group sessions.




 NUS LGBT Campaign-

The National Union of Students LGBT Campaign, with information, events and resources for LGBTQ students nationally.




An LGB charity that focuses on research, campaigns and lobbying to put LGB issues

on the mainstream political agenda, but who also have an extensive range of

resources for LGB people experiencing difficulties.
